Platinum Silicone Sex Toys: What 39 Makers Say About Their Silicone
The short answer
Eighteen of the 39 makers we read say platinum, and 12 say it about everything they make, mostly dildo makers like Bad Dragon, Vixen and Mr Hankey's. The big vibrator brands say medical-grade or just body-safe.
The Short Answer
Platinum-cure siliconeSilicone set with a platinum catalyst instead of tin. It cures cleaner, with nothing left over, and it's the claim to look for on a silicone toy. More in the glossary is the silicone claim I look for on a toy that goes inside me, so I went and read what makers actually say about their own silicone. On October 31, 2026 I read the pages of 42 makers, and 39 of them could be read.
Eighteen use the word platinum somewhere. Twelve say it about everything they make, and almost all of those are dildo makers: Bad Dragon, Vixen, Mr Hankey's, Tantus, Primal Hardwere, SquarePeg and a handful of smaller shops. Six say it only about one line or one toy.
The big vibrator brands don't say platinum. Ten makers, among them Fun Factory, Dame, Womanizer and Satisfyer, say Medical-grade siliconeSilicone that passed tests for medical devices. On a toy listing it's a claim unless the maker shows the papers, and it doesn't say how the silicone was cured. More in the glossary. Eleven, among them LELO and Lovense, say Body-safe siliconePure silicone with no fillers. It's nonporous, so it cleans completely, and "platinum-cured" on the listing is the best sign you're getting the real thing. More in the glossary and nothing more specific. That doesn't make their toys unsafe. It means the cure is the one thing they don't tell you.
Four makers post any lab or compliance paperwork, and none of the pages we read in it tests which catalyst cured the silicone. On every page here, the cure rests on the maker's word.
What Platinum-Cured Means
Silicone starts as a liquid or a putty and is cured into rubber with a catalyst. Smooth-On, which sells both kinds and which two of the makers below name as their supplier, says silicones cure with either a platinum catalyst or a tin catalyst, and that platinum-cure is the more expensive kind.
Smooth-On also says the independent lab that certified its platinum silicones as skin safe tested tin-cured silicones too, and no tin-cured formulation passed. That certification is a skin irritation test of the cured rubber. It says nothing about wearing it inside you, and no lab test I found does.
"Medical-grade" is a different claim. The medical silicone supplier NuSil says most of the silicone rubber it sells for medical devices comes either peroxide-cured or platinum-cured, that peroxide often leaves byproducts a post-cure has to remove, and that platinum leaves none. So a toy that says medical-grade hasn't told you its cure. Mr Hankey's goes further. Its FAQ says that, as far as it knows, no toy maker uses true medical-grade silicone, the kind that can be implanted, and that its own isn't either.
The byproducts are why people care. A 2022 study found breakdown products of a peroxide used to cure silicone rubber in the blood and urine of silicone factory workers. The study says that peroxide breaks down into three PCBs, among other things, as it cures. That's workers at the factory, not people using a finished toy, and it covers one peroxide. Tin compounds are watched too. The EU has restricted dibutyltin and dioctyltin compounds in many consumer products since 2012, and Mr Hankey's posted report tests for those organotins.
None of that makes a toy that only says body-safe dangerous. It's why platinum-cured is the most specific claim a maker can make, and why I'd rather see it in writing on a toy I'll use for years.
Platinum on Everything
Twelve makers say their silicone is platinum on everything they make. Eleven of them use the word cure or cured somewhere, and Vixen says "platinum silicone".

| Fantasticocks | "the only type of silicone we use at Fantasticocks" (about platinum silicone) | Everything | fantasticocks.com |
Read on each maker's own site on October 31, 2026. Xomiy's own site didn't load, so its row is Juliet Toys' store, which sells it under its own name. Weredog and Fantasticocks are UK and US fantasy makers we haven't reviewed.
Even here the product pages don't always repeat it. Tantus says platinum-cured in its FAQ, but none of the 316 listings in its store uses the word. SquarePeg's best-known SuperSoft toys say "own SuperSoft silicone blend". Uberrime and Pleasure Forge are the two that name their supplier, Smooth-On, and Uberrime is the only maker here whose own pages explain peroxide and tin curing.
Platinum on Some Lines
Six makers use the word on one line or one toy and something vaguer everywhere else.
| Maker | In its own words | What it covers | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| New York Toy Collective | "100% platinum-grade body-safe silicone" (Sam STP) | 6 of 31 listings, the Carter, Sam STP and Jack among them. The Shilo says "body-safe triple-density silicone". | newyorktoycollective.com |
| NS Novelties | "platinum-grade silicone" (Colours Dual Density) | 4 of 466 listings | nsnovelties.com |
| Pipedream | "made with platinum-cured silicone for the HIGHEST degree of purity" (Dillio Platinum) | The Dillio Platinum line, 15 of 905 listings | pipedreamproducts.com |
| We-Vibe | "medical-grade silicone that is platinum-cured" (Touch) | One product's FAQ answer. Elsewhere "body-safe silicone" or "100% medical-grade silicone". | we-vibe.com |
| b-Vibe | "Often called platinum-cured, liquid silicone has an ultra-soft, plush, almost skin-like feel" | One ring collection. Elsewhere "Body-Safe Silicone". | bvibe.com |
| Geeky Sex Toys | "We use a near clear platinum silicone" (Pink Pincer) | 2 of 36 listings. Its About page says "Body-safe silicone". | geekysextoys.com |
Listing counts come from each store's full catalog, read October 31, 2026. We-Vibe's 30 product pages that we read say "body-safe silicone".
We-Vibe is the interesting one. Its FAQ says the Touch is "medical-grade silicone that is platinum-cured", and nothing else we read on its site says platinum. New York Toy Collective says platinum on the Carter and the Sam STP, while the Shilo, its best-known toy, says body-safe triple-density silicone. b-Vibe hedges with "Often called platinum-cured".
Medical-Grade, No Platinum
Ten makers say medical-grade and never platinum, many of the vibrator and Air-pulse toysInstead of vibrating against the clitoris, these pulse air around it through a small soft nozzle. Womanizer invented the idea, and Satisfyer made it cheap. More in the glossary brands among them.
| Maker | In its own words | What it covers | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fun Factory | "Our toys are made of 100% medical grade silicone" | Everything | en.funfactory.com |
| Dame | "All of our vibrators are made of medical-grade silicone, with the exception of Zee" | Every vibrator but the Zee, which is ABS plastic | dame.com |
| Aneros | "Aneros products are made of non-porous medical grade silicone and body safe thermoplastics." | Everything | aneros.com |
| Womanizer | "The stimulator head is made from a medical grade silicone" | The heads. Its product specs say "Body-safe silicone". | womanizer.com |
| Satisfyer | "Made from super-soft, body-friendly, medical-grade silicone" | Many product pages, 11 of the 30 we read. Its FAQ says "body-friendly silicone". | us.satisfyer.com |
| Arcwave | "Medical-grade silicone, body-safe ABS plastic" | The Ion, Ion 2, Thruster and Perk. The Voy says "Body-safe silicone". | arcwave.com |
| Kiiroo | "our vibrators are coated in 100% medical grade Hygiene Silicone" | Its vibrators | kiiroo.com |
| Svakom | "medical-grade silicone verification" | Some products. Others say "premium body-safe silicone". | svakom.com |
| Tracy's Dog | "made of medical-grade silicone" (Rosie) | Some products. Others say "body-safe silicone". | tracysdog.com |
| Wild Flower | "ultra-soft medical grade silicone" (Enby 3) | The Enby 3. The Willow and Ova say "body-safe silicone". | wildflowersex.com |
Read October 31, 2026. Fun Factory's US store was locked, so its row is its English store. Svakom posts CE and RoHS certificates for its products. Wild Flower is a store that also makes its own toys, and only those count here.
Satisfyer says medical-grade on many product pages and "body-friendly silicone" in its FAQ. Womanizer says medical-grade about the heads, the part that touches you, and body-safe silicone in its specs. Dame says it about every vibrator except the Zee, which is ABS plastic, and says so itself.
Body-Safe and Nothing More
Eleven makers say body-safe, 100% or premium silicone and stop there.
| Maker | In its own words | What it covers | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| LELO | "specially engineered body-safe silicone" | Everything. It says it meets ISO 3533 and shows no certificate. | lelo.com |
| Lovense | "100% pure body-safe silicone" (Lush 4) | Its product FAQs | lovense.com |
| Le Wand | "Materials: Body-Safe Silicone & ABS" | Its wands | lewandmassager.com |
| Crave | "Outer sleeve is body-safe silicone, phthalate-free" (Duet Flex) | Its toys | lovecrave.com |
| OhMiBod | "Always body-safe (Phthalate-free)" | The brand | ohmibod.com |
| Hot Octopuss | "Material: Silicone, ABS" (Pulse Solo Essential) | Its own toys | hotoctopuss.com |
| CalExotics | "Create 100% premium silicone intimate products" | Its About page. Product pages say "body-safe Silicone". Two products with "Platinum" in the name are PVC and TPR. | calexotics.com |
| Lovehoney | "skin-safe silicone" (Happy Rabbit) | Its own lines. It says it helped write ISO 3533. | help.lovehoney.com |
| Sportsheets | "high-grade silicone that is non-porous and phthalate-free" | Its toys | sportsheets.com |
| Screaming O | "Body-safe True Silicone, phthalate-free and latex-free" | Its toys. It says an independent lab tests its materials. | screamingo.com |
| Doc Johnson | "health grade silicone" (The Stretch, in its "Platinum Premium Silicone" collection) | "Platinum" appears only in collection and line names. | docjohnson.com |
Read October 31, 2026. Lovehoney's pages only load in a browser and were read in one. CalExotics' Platinum X-10 Beads are PVC and its Butterfly Kiss Platinum Edition is TPR, by its own listings.
LELO is the biggest name here. It calls its silicone "specially engineered body-safe silicone" and says it meets ISO 3533, the sex toy safety standard, without showing a certificate. Lovehoney says it helped write that standard. Lovense says "100% pure body-safe silicone". None of them says platinum or medical-grade.
Doc Johnson has "Platinum Premium Silicone" as a collection name, and the toy in it says "health grade silicone". CalExotics sells two products with Platinum in the name, and neither is silicone. A word in a product name is not a material claim.
Three makers couldn't be read at all. Blush's site wouldn't load in any browser or tool, Twisted Beast's site said it was under construction, and Damn Average's domain is parked.
Who Shows Lab Papers
Four of the 39 post any paperwork. Mr Hankey's FAQ links a 26-page PDF. It holds a 2019 report on its "Platinum Silicone Formulation" that passes the California and EU tests for lead, cadmium, organotin, PAHs and PhthalatesSofteners used in PVC and jelly toys, linked to hormone disruption. Silicone, glass, stainless steel and ABS plastic don't contain them. More in the glossary, plus skin irritation and sensitization reports from 2016 and 2020. Nothosaur shows two SGS reports from September 2023 on one black sample, an EU RoHS test and a REACH screen for substances of very high concern, both passed. Svakom posts CE and RoHS certificates for each product, and OhMiBod posts declarations of conformity it issued itself.
None of the pages we read in them names or tests the cure. Uberrime and Pleasure Forge point to their supplier's skin-safe certification instead, which Smooth-On's own list describes as an OECD 439 skin irritation test. Tantus says outside labs test the toys it has made elsewhere for organotins and phthalates, and it posts nothing. LELO says it meets ISO 3533 and shows no certificate.
So when a maker says platinum-cured, you're taking its word. The ones that post test results at least let you see what was tested.
How to Check Your Own Toy
Read the maker's own page, not a store's. Store listings add words the maker never used. One store lists dozens of Blush toys as platinum-cured, and Blush's own site wouldn't load for me to check.
Look for the cure, not the grade. "Platinum-cured" or "platinum cure" names the catalyst. "Medical-grade" and "body-safe" don't, as NuSil's own paper shows.
Don't count names. "Platinum" in a product or collection name is branding, as the PVC beads above show.
Ask for papers, and read what they test. Lead, phthalates and organotins are worth testing for. None of the reports here tests the cure.
Don't bother with home tests. No drop of lube, flame or sniff tells you which catalyst cured a toy. Our body-safe materials guide covers what you can judge yourself, and what the makers say about silicone lube is the other question people ask about their silicone.
How I Did This
I read each maker's own site on October 31, 2026: its store, FAQ, help center, material pages and product pages. Where a store publishes its whole catalog (most Shopify stores, plus the WooCommerce and help-center APIs of SquarePeg, Geeky Sex Toys and Bad Dragon), every listing was read and counted. Larger sites were sampled, from 5 to 65 product pages each, so a platinum line on a page we didn't open wouldn't show up. Every quote in the tables was copied from the maker's page, and I fetched the key pages again that day to check the wording.
The 42 are 31 makers from our rankings and 11 more that sell silicone toys in the US or UK, from big ones like Pipedream and Blush to small fantasy shops like Weredog. Not every maker on our rankings is here: the doll and machine makers, the stores and the lube makers are left out, and so are Exotic Erotics and Magic Wand. A store that also makes its own toys (Wild Flower, Lovehoney, Hot Octopuss) counts only for those, and a retailer's description never counts for a maker.
This page records what the makers say. It doesn't judge whether a claim is true, and we didn't send toys to a lab. Some of these makers pay us a commission on sales through our links. That didn't change what I recorded, and every link in the tables goes to the maker's own page.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is platinum silicone?
Silicone cured with a platinum catalyst, also called addition cure. Smooth-On says silicones cure with either platinum or tin, and NuSil says platinum leaves no byproducts behind, while peroxide-cured silicone needs a post-cure to remove them. Makers often shorten it to "platinum silicone".
Is platinum silicone safe?
It's the most specific claim a silicone toy maker makes. Smooth-On says its platinum silicones passed an independent skin safety test and none of the tin-cured ones did. That test is for skin irritation, so no maker's paperwork proves anything about internal use.
What's the difference between platinum silicone and medical-grade silicone?
Platinum-cured names the catalyst. Medical-grade is a grade, and NuSil says medical silicone comes either peroxide-cured or platinum-cured, so it doesn't tell you the cure. Mr Hankey's says toy makers don't use true implant-grade silicone at all.
Is LELO silicone platinum?
LELO doesn't say so. Its pages call it "specially engineered body-safe silicone" and say it meets ISO 3533, the sex toy safety standard. We found no platinum or medical-grade wording on the lelo.com pages we read.
Are Lovense toys platinum silicone?
Lovense doesn't say so. Its product FAQs say "100% pure body-safe silicone", and none of the 30 product pages we read says platinum or medical-grade.
Is Bad Dragon platinum silicone?
Yes, by its own help center: "Our toys and accessories are made of 100% platinum-cure silicone." It posts no test reports.
Which dildo brands use platinum silicone?
Twelve makers say platinum on everything they make: Bad Dragon, Vixen, Mr Hankey's, Tantus, Primal Hardwere, Pleasure Forge, Nothosaur, Xomiy, SquarePeg, Uberrime, Weredog and Fantasticocks. New York Toy Collective, NS Novelties and Pipedream say it on some lines.
Is Satisfyer medical-grade silicone?
Many of its product pages say "medical-grade silicone", and its FAQ says "body-friendly silicone". It doesn't say platinum anywhere we read.
How can you tell if a sex toy is platinum silicone?
Only from the maker. Look for "platinum-cured" on the maker's own page, not a store's, and ask for test reports. No home test tells you the cure.
Is tin-cured silicone safe for sex toys?
Smooth-On says no tin-cured silicone passed the skin safety test its lab ran. Tantus and Mr Hankey's say they test for organotin compounds, which the EU restricts in many consumer products.
Does Tantus use platinum silicone?
Yes, by its FAQ: "high quality, Platinum cured, medical grade, 100% legitimate". Its product pages say "100% Ultra-Premium Silicone" and don't use the word platinum.
Is Mr Hankey's silicone medical grade?
No, and Mr Hankey's says so itself. Its FAQ says its platinum silicone is made in the US, tested by an independent lab and body safe, but not medical grade, the kind you'd implant.
