Body-safe silicone refers to platinum-cured (addition-cure) silicone that contains no fillers, plasticizers, or phthalates. It's non-porous at the microscopic level, meaning bacteria can't embed themselves in the surface. You can fully sanitize it by boiling, bleaching, or running it through a dishwasher (non-motorized toys only). This is the gold standard material for sex toys. Brands like Tantus, Fun Factory, and We-Vibe use medical-grade silicone exclusively. Budget "silicone" toys from unknown brands may contain fillers — if it smells strongly of chemicals out of the box, it's probably not pure silicone.
