HomeGlossaryFlared Base

Flared Base

A base wider than the shaft that prevents a toy from being fully inserted — mandatory for safe anal use. No flared base, no anal play. Period.

A flared base is a widened section at the bottom of a toy that prevents it from being pulled into the body during anal use. The rectum creates suction during contractions, and toys without a flared base can (and do) get lost inside, requiring embarrassing emergency room visits. For anal play, the rule is absolute: no flared base, no anal use. A flared base should be significantly wider than the widest point of the shaft — at least 1.5x wider. Suction cup bases count as flared. T-bar bases (like on anal beads) also count. A ring pull or retrieval cord does NOT count as a flared base — those can be pulled inside too. When in doubt, look for toys specifically designed and marketed for anal use.
