The IP (Ingress Protection) code system rates how well a device resists water. For sex toys, the relevant ratings are: IPX4 (splash-proof — don't submerge), IPX5 (can handle a shower spray), IPX6 (powerful water jets), IPX7 (submersible to 1m for 30 min — bath safe), and IPX8 (deeper/longer submersion — but almost no sex toys have this). "Waterproof" without an IP rating is meaningless marketing — always look for the specific IPX number. Most quality rechargeable toys are IPX7. The charging port is usually the weak point — make sure the cover or magnetic seal is intact before water exposure. Splashproof (IPX4) is fine for cleaning under a tap but not for bath or shower play.
