Sliquid vs Swiss Navy

Verdict drawn from our full reviews of both brands

THE VERDICT

Sliquid, unless the bottle you're buying is Swiss Navy silicone. Sliquid keeps glycerin, parabens and propylene glycol out of everything it makes, and its range (H2O, Sassy, Silk, Silver, Organics) covers every use with the same clean standard. Swiss Navy's silicone is its real product. Thick, smooth, cheaper than Uberlube, on the shelf at every sex shop, with a Premium Anal version that's among the thickest made. Swiss Navy's water-based formula is unremarkable and contains parabens. If you care about ingredients across the board, Sliquid is the brand. If you want thick silicone at a fair price, Swiss Navy's one good bottle is worth buying.

PROS & CONS

SLIQUID
PROS
Zero glycerin, zero parabens, zero propylene glycol across the entire lineup
H2O is the cleanest water-based formula I've found at any price point
Sassy is thick enough for anal without feeling like craft glue
Silk hybrid gives you the best of both worlds: silicone slickness with water-based cleanup
CONS
Water-based formulas (H2O, Sassy) need reapplication more often than competitors
Premium pricing compared to drugstore brands, especially the Organics line
Silver silicone lube is good but not the top of the class against Überlube or Swiss Navy
Bottle design on the smaller sizes is plain and feels like it belongs in a pharmacy
SWISS NAVY
PROS
Silicone formula is thick, ultra-smooth, and competes with lubes costing twice as much
Widely available in physical stores, from Adam & Eve to your local sex shop
Mid-range pricing puts it below Überlube and above drugstore garbage
Premium Anal formula is one of the thickest silicone lubes on the market
CONS
Water-based formula contains parabens (methylparaben, propylparaben), which cleaner brands have ditched
Water-based is unremarkable compared to Sliquid H2O or Good Clean Love
Packaging looks like it was designed in 2005 and hasn't been updated since
No hybrid formula option if you want the best of both worlds

WHO SHOULD BUY WHICH

BUY SLIQUID IF
  • You've ever had a yeast infection, UTI, or irritation after using lube and want to eliminate the most likely cause
  • You use silicone toys regularly and need a water-based lube that won't damage them
  • Clean, pronounceable ingredients are a priority and you're tired of reading chemistry labels
BUY SWISS NAVY IF
  • You want excellent silicone lube without paying Überlube prices
  • You prefer buying lube in person at a physical store rather than ordering online
  • Shower sex or water play is a regular part of your routine and you need lube that won't wash away

QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK

Does Swiss Navy contain parabens?

The water-based formula does (methylparaben and propylparaben). The silicone formula is the product to buy. Sliquid's entire range is paraben-free.

Which is better for silicone lube?

Swiss Navy. Its silicone is thicker and longer-lasting than Sliquid Silver, which is good but not top of the class. For water-based and hybrid, Sliquid wins outright.

Which is easier to find in stores?

Swiss Navy, by far. It's stocked from Adam & Eve to local shops. Sliquid is mostly an online and specialty-store purchase.
